 Description:

Restored Irish castle available  for  family vacations, reunions, small weddings and special occasions. The battlemented Tudor-style structure has  side turrets and a central machicolated turret enclosing the main doorway. Such castle-like structures in revivalist style were in vogue in the early Victorian period. This structure  is a more modest version of the impressive castellated residences built in the first half of the nineteenth century.   The building  fell into disrepair. and in 1960 the Land Commission took over the land that belonged to the castle  and divided it.  Thirty four years later the castle ruins and the yard were bought by the current owners and in 1996 they embarked on their great restoration programme. By December 1999 the work  was complete, and on 1 May 2000 the castlewas opened to those who appreciate history, beautiful surroundings and modern comfort.

Remaining true to the original vision of the castle, the owners have researched in detail the architectural and interior design of the historic castle structure. Every piece of furniture, light fitting, window and floor covering has been sourced, selected or specially manufactured.  The result is a fusion of the grandeur of times past and the luxury of modern four-star accommodation.  The restoration and renovation of the Castle is a true labour of love  with most of the work undertaken by local craftsmen and women.  The result is a chrming  and comfortable home. Both formal and family friendly traditional dining facilities are on offer. The formal dining room seats 16 people in extravagant old world style, while the traditional Irish kitchen offers a cosy informal dining area. Ground floor:  Beyond the hallway, with its Great Oak Door,  you will find the dining room, drawing room and library. At the end of the long corridor a beautiful ash carved stairs has pride of place.  The castle’s formal reception rooms include the drawing and dining rooms, both featuring hand-painted murals on original vaulted Norman ceilings from which hang impressive antique chandeliers. Both formal and family friendly traditional dining facilities are on offer. The formal dining room seats 16 people in extravagant old world style, while the traditional Irish kitchen offers a cosy informal dining area. A fully equipped professional kitchen is available also, or we can organize a catering team on request

The castle has nine bedrooms in total, six double en-suite rooms suitable for six couples; two single bedrooms suitable for single occupancy and a twin room which has two single beds in it.

Amenities in the area:

The nearest town is Thurles which is a typical Irish country town. A popular area for walking with forestry tracks and hillside paths providing amazing views across to the Galtee Mountains. You will pas some historic sites along the way such as an ancient mass rock; a remnant of a time when Catholics were forced to practise their religion in secret.

Ireland’s South Eastis well known for its equestrian industry with  world renowned stud farms such as Coolmore Stud and trainers such as Aidan O’Brien creating a name on the global stage for Irish and Tipperary horses and horse racing. There are some good racecourses on offer in the greater Tipperary area at which you can enjoy the thrills and adrenaline rushes that is Irish Horse Racing. Crossogue Equestrian offers riding trails and cross country rides that wind their way through Tipperary fields that are full of young thoroughbreds and breeding stock. Guests with an interest in racing can have an insight into many racing activities at Crossogue.

For the culturally minded there are numerous heritage sites in the area; the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and Ireland's smallest city -Kilkenny.
