Description

The East Tower Wing of a small charming castle in the heart of County Limerick may be rented independently or as part of the larger castle. The East Tower is a fully self-contained family home. The bedrooms and bathrooms are each individual and are furnished with an eclectic collection of antique and modern furniture collected by the family from all over the world.  Approach to the castle is along a 3/4 mile avenue, from which you swing to the right for the East Tower.  Access is through an archway to a private courtyard with a fountain in the centre and encircled by the stone walls and buildings, some dating back to the 12th century.

Accommodation information:

Ground floor:  There are magnificent stone steps leading to the front door. Inside is a bright welcoming hallway with classic black and white tiles. To your left are the cloakrooms and to your right the delightful dining room with beautiful old pine floor, and vast curved windows with a view of the Norman Tower House. The dining table can seat up to 14; for functions a second table can be added.

The Kitchen is large, stylish, and modern, but with a flagstone floor and a table that seats 12. It has an American style fridge freezer with ice maker, a cooking range with gas hob and electric ovens, and two dishwashers. There are stainless steel worktops on the surfaces and black granite surrounds the cooker. There is also a wine cooler. The under-floor heating keeps the room warm and welcoming all day. The kitchen door leads out onto a large patio facing west with barbeque and herb garden. It is a lovely area to sit on a sunny evening. Downstairs there is an amazing basement room, which we call the “pub” although it’s up to you to stock it with beverages! It features stone walls built on to the foundation rocks hewn from the limestone hill on which the castle stands. A great room for a party.

Upper floors:  Upstairs the huge living room is elegantly and comfortably furnished. It has WIFI access, a large TV, DVD player and a stereo system.   The East Tower bedrooms are accessed by a beautiful wide spiral staircase which stretches from the first floor up to the 4th floor roof area.  The five bedrooms and four bathrooms accommodate up to 10 guests. There are four double rooms and one twin room ((i.e. two single beds).

The East Tower is the result of four years of careful renovations undertaken to add to the accommodation without changing the style or atmosphere of the castle. If you are looking for group accommodation in an Irish castle  at affordable prices this is the perfect place for you.
